Hospital Executive Luckey Welsh Joins CDM Healthcare Team
Charleston, SC (February 25, 2008) – Charleston-based Corporate DevelopMint is proud to announce the addition of J. Luckey Welsh to its Healthcare team. With nearly 40 years in service to the healthcare industry, Luckey will provide our clients with the “insider’s perspective” on the challenges facing CEOs, hospitals, and the healthcare industry in general.
Luckey’s first healthcare post was as pharmacist at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC. The hospital became more than simply a job for Luckey and, in 1976, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer. He served in this position until 1995 when he assumed the helm of the medical center as President and CEO. He led Southeastern for another 12 years before retiring in 2007.
During his tenure, he successfully executed two capital campaigns, both of which concluded after raising more than 150% of the goal. The first, to build a new patient tower, raised $4.6 million on a $3 million goal. The second was a $1 million campaign for a Heart Center which ultimately raised $1.6 million.
“Luckey Welsh has dedicated his life to advancing healthcare, “says Corporate DevelopMint’s founder and President, June Bradham. “His commitment to the hospital he helped build, his leadership in local and national industry organizations, and his dedication to improving healthcare now translate into invaluable counsel for our clients.”
In addition to his leadership in the hospital he served for nearly half a century, Luckey has been an active leader in the healthcare arena. He sat on the Board of Trustees of the Eastern Chapter of Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Association and served as Chair of Hospice of North Carolina as well as serving as Chairman of the North Carolina Hospital Association Board of Trustees. He also represented North Carolina at the national level on the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association.
Luckey is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past member of the Editorial Board of North Carolina Medical Journal. He has served his local community through leadership in both the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club.
As a Corporate DevelopMint Senior Consultant, Luckey will engage clients in CEO coaching and Board education as well as driving campaign management efforts. Luckey’s unique experience and skills will offer healthcare clients the real-world guidance they need to succeed.
